Design touches such as dramatic, vertical accents and elegant, floating door grips reward your gaze everywhere you look. For the driver, the instrument panel and steering wheel are carefully designed to deliver satisfaction to the eyes and the touch. Form-fitting seats in soft leather are both comfortable and supportive –especially during hard driving – and double-stitching provides an attractive design accent. Leather door and centre console armrests provide ideal thickness and cushioning.

Steering wheel tilt and multi-way driver’s seat adjustment allow drivers of virtually any size to achieve a comfortable driving position. And all controls are logically positioned for easy operation, and engineered for a positive, satisfying operating feel. The new audio system features a 4.3-inch full colour screen offering intuitive operation of the AM/FM radio, MP3-capable CD changer and auxiliary input jack. In addition, it also functions as a display for the back-up monitor system with wide-angle camera that gives a comprehensive rear view when reversing.

Craftsmanship and "customer delight" - an important Mazda extra - are evident in items such as blue indirect lighting in the ceiling and front/rear doors that provides a gentle illumination for the passenger space; blue indirect lighting for the meters and audio dials; and decoration panels that add a further touch of elegance and style to the interior.

Entry and exit couldn’t be easier: the rear doors open wider than any competing vehicle, and the second-row seats feature one-touch fold and slide to allow access to the third row. Passengers in the rear also enjoy dedicated air conditioning with a separate control panel. Behind the third-row seats, there’s a class-leading 487 litres (SAE) of luggage capacity – more than you find in many saloon cars. All rear seats fold flat (second-row seats are split 60:40 and the third row 50:50) to create a huge, versatile luggage space. And the powered rear door gives effort-free, one-touch access to the luggage area. Peace of mind is assured with a full complement of safety measures.

DRVING DYNAMICS

Turn everyday driving into pure pleasure. The journey starts with a newly-developed high-power 204kW[270hp] 3.7-litre V6 DOHC to move Mazda CX-9 with smoothly powerful grace and authority.

Featuring all-aluminum construction, four valves per cylinder and variable intake valve timing, this lightweight engine delivers tremendous torque and power across the entire speed range giving you effortless, exciting response in all driving conditions.

What’s more, a wide range of advanced measures holds NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) down at the levels found in a luxury sedan. The 6-speed Activematic gearbox with carefully-chosen gear ratios keeps the engine in the sweet spot, delivering sparkling acceleration at any time.

And an active torque-split four-wheel drive system (2WD models available in some areas) delivers all this sporty power to the road. This advanced system takes input from various sensors and automatically adjusts torque distribution depending on traction conditions: up to 50% of the drive power goes to the rear wheels to maintain curve-hugging grip under virtually any road conditions. All-independent suspension - MacPherson strut at the front and multilink at the rear - is integrated with an ultra-rigid body to assure a smooth, comfortable ride allied with taut, linear handling.

SAFETY
Superior Safety For All Passengers
To maintain a rigid safety cage around the passenger compartment, the Mazda CX-9 body is built around the Mazda Advanced Impact-energy Distribution and Absorption System (MAIDAS).

Four-wheel ventilated disc brakes feature an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) to prevent wheel lockup in emergency braking, while a Traction Control System (TCS) detects wheel slippage and adjusts torque to restore traction, and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) minimizes under- or oversteer during emergency manoeuvres.

An advanced Roll Stability Control (RSC) system senses when a rollover is about to occur and reduces torque and applies the brakes to restore the vehicle to stability. A six airbag system is fitted as standard and includes side-curtain airbags that extend to the third row.
